Steelhead Fishing Information

Two years ago we began offering charter trips for Steelhead Trout. Being located in the eastern half of the western basin of Lake Erie affords us the opportunity to target Steelhead alone or a Steelhead/Walleye combination.

For those thinking about a Steelhead trip in 2013, I would suggest a Steelhead/Walleye combination package during mid-June through early August. Steelhead are commonly found in the deeper, cooler water of the central basin of Lake Erie. (Getting there requires some travel, but the distance is not prohibitive.) Walleye normally also inhabit this same area. Thus, a combination charter targeting both species usually makes for a more productive outing.

If you want to target Steelhead only, I would suggest seeking a charter service based in Ashtabula, Ohio, or somewhat east of Ashtabula. For the very best Steelhead fishing consider a fishing charter service in Olcott, New York. I have a colleague who operates there and will be happy to refer you to him.

Currently there is also a very good Steelhead fishery each year in Canadian waters well east of Pelee Island from late July through mid-August. We are now working on developing a charter package to target only Steelhead in this area during that time because I believe we can be highly successful. This package will require at least one night lodging due to travel distance and will also require a normal Canadian fishing license as well as a passport or passport card.
